The bosses of ‘Ginny & Georgia’ unpack the shocking destination of Georgia at the end of season 3, Ginny’s tortuous transformation and what follows for season 4
Spoiler alert: This story contains spoilers of season 3 of “Ginny & Georgia”, which is now transmitted in Netflix.
At the end of season 3 of “Ginny & Georgia”, wife, mother and mayor’s office, Georgia Miller (Brianne Howey), learns her destiny. Having been accused of killing the terminal husband with terminal diseases of Cynthia Fuller (Sabrina Grdevich), Georgia spent most of the season in prison, in the house arrest and inside and outside the courtroom. The trial not only turned Georgia into a signature in the United community of Wellsbury, Massachusetts, but also lost the custody of his children, Ginny (Antonia Gentry) and Austin (Diesel La Torraca), who were removed from their care and sent to live with their respective parents, Zion (Nathan Mitchell) and Gil (Aaron Ashmore).
And yes, he had done it: at the end of season 2, the public had seen Georgia Smother Tom Fuller (Vincent Legault) to death as a terrified Austin looked from the closet, so his fault was never debated. However, the turn of the events that established the bubbly mother of the south of two free was completely unexpected.
When the penultimate episode of Season 3, “it’s time for me,” came to an end, Austin took the position, testifying that he witnessed Tom’s death. However, instead of blaming his mother, he told the court that his father, Gil, a man with whom he had just started connecting, was the culprit. Although this lie has freed Georgia, he has changed Austin forever, fracturing his relationship with his mother and permanently breaking the close link he shared with Ginny.
While Georgia’s murder trial occupied the center of the stage this season, the dominant effects of his actions went far beyond his children. In the midst of the trial, the marriage of Georgia and the mayor of Wellsbury Paul Randolph (Scott Porter) they broke completely, but a possible pregnancy can connect them forever. Ginny’s unexpected pregnancy also led to a vital story in which the 17 -year -old character has an abortion. Ginny Marcus’s ex -boyfriend’s mental health (Felix Mallard) has continued deteriorating, and no one but his twin, Maxine (Sara Waisglass), seems to see how much pain is. In addition, Ginny has now personally experienced the manipulative power that her mother thrives.
“Ginny had to build his limits quite high and work on his mental health and prioritize that,” says Creator Sarah Lampert. “When doing that, we see Ginny and Georgia Switch places. I think there is a bit of death of that vulnerability for Ginny to do what he has to do to save his mother. A fascinating struggle for her in season 4 will be this balance of power and vulnerability.”
Variety He spoke with Lampert and Showrunner/Executive Producer Sarah Glinski about the final shocking and all emotional turns and turns this season. Together, the duo unpacked some of the most important moments of season 3, and discussed what fans can expect in season 4.
I think we all knew that Georgia would come out of this murder, but the way he was acquitted left me completely flying. How did everyone conclude that Austin would be accusing his father, Gil, which would change the trajectory of the trial?
Sarah Lampert: The bases for that were established in season 2. We realized that if I wanted a trial for murder, what we did, Georgia would have to kill someone in Wellsbury. That gave us the entire plot of Cynthia X Tom, and then we wanted Austin to witness him. In the “Kill Gill” episode in season 2, we tried to deceive the public to think we could kill Gill. We did not, because we knew we would need a type of fall for season 3. And then, during season 3, the writers explored different options, deepened in them and took them to life, which resulted in the Salaz Giro that was.
How will he betray his mother for his mother to transform Austin’s relationships, not only with Georgia, but with Ginny, who pushed him to lie for his mother?
Sarah Glinski: Austin will be incredible for what he did, and I think he will get angry with his mother and sister for doing so. Your relationship will change forever. That is something that we will explore to go to season 4. Also align with its growing major. It has to go through things that are really unfair and frankly traumatic. You will have to deal with more complicated consequences of your actions.

Ginny also went through many ups and downs this season, and had an abortion history, which I think is important, especially in our political climate. Why did you all decided that this would be an important part of your trip this season?
Glinski: We want to portray authentically teenagers and young women reflecting what is happening in their lives. And it seemed that this was a story that we wanted to tell, and felt like the right time and the right character this season.
When Ginny realizes that she is pregnant, the first person she wants to run is Georgia, but in the middle of the trial, Georgia has lost the custody of her children. Why was it so important that Ginny approached his mother?
Lampert: They have this complex relationship, not always healthy. Even so, it is based on a lot of love. Ginny just loves her mother. It is heartbreaking for me that at the end of episode 5, you listen to this girl say: “I want my mother.” Then, when she is pregnant, she knows that no one on earth will be more upset about this than her mother, and Georgia is still the only person she feels she needs to talk. One of my favorite moments in the whole season is when Georgia realizes that this is what is happening. Ginny never says it, but Georgia realizes. And the trip in which Brianne takes us is so special, in terms of performance.
Glinski: Before that. Georgia is in such a low place, and is really activated by her daughter who needs her, which is an integral part of the season.
After guaranteeing the launch of his mother, Ginny transforms. She sees how easy it is to manipulate people to get yours, and love it. She is very different from the girl we met in season 1. Do you think she will continue to take advantage of this power in the style of Georgia she has found within herself?
Glinski: I think for Ginny, so far, he has not had much control in his life. She has been dragged from one place to another. This is the first time he takes control of his trip and his way to save his mother. And it is difficult not to have that power. And then we will see her continue exploring that for good and potentially to less good.
Speaking of trajectories, “Ginny & Georgia” has always been great to show mental health, not only through Ginny but also through Marcus. In season 3, his mental health continues to deteriorate; He is also fighting with alcoholism. Why was it important to continue following various mental health trips?
Glinski: It is imperative to be authentic, and it is difficult to improve. A lot of work is needed, and even if the character wants it or the person wants it, it does not mean that it happens immediately. It is like a true fight. With Marcus, we wanted to take our time with him and present it authentically. Although the job is doing, it is not easy. It can go back and go to alcohol. I think all this feels like an authentic part of his way on his trip to finally improve someday.
Lampert: Healing is not linear, and Marcus is still so young. So, what we did was work in close collaboration with Dr. Taji Huang, who has been our psychologist with whom we have consulted since season 1. She has helped shape the character’s mental health trip. We always curl up with her before starting a new season, and spend hours discussing the mental health of the characters with her, as well as associating with mental Health America. They are involved once we have the cuts of the episodes, and give us comments based on the episodes that we always have in consideration as well.
Speaking of struggles, Maxine is also dealing with her own problems. Not only does Marcus worry, but his group of Mang friends, which consists of Abby (Katie Douglas), Nora (Chelsea Clark) and Ginny, has also diverted this season. Can you discuss the history of Maxine this season?
Lampert: Maxine is a character with whom many people can identify themselves because he has a big heart, but it is his worst enemy. His greatest strength is that he cares so much about all those around her. However, this season, we see that it is also its greatest weakness, since it awaits that level of response in return and is really confused when you do not receive it.
Glinski: The program is trying to explore that real experience and friendship for adolescents, specifically female friendship in high school, is complicated. Everyone is going through your own things. Everyone is growing and changing. And for mang to fracture this season it makes sense. That is a natural progression of friendship, but hopefully, they will find the way back to each other, and Max will find a safe landing.

Paul and Georgia have officially finished, and we see that Georgia finally expresses their feelings and their darkest secrets to Joe (Raymond Ablack). But she tells Joe that he needs a little time before they advance. She is also pregnant. Why did you decide that Joe and Georgia were final?
Glinski:We love Georgia and Joe, and he felt the right time to connect them in a different way because he feels like Zion and Paul, Georgia is always putting some armor. She pretends to be. She is positioning a bit. She has loved them both, but it is not really herself. This season, when we knock her down, and is at its lowest point, and it is so vulnerable that she turns to the person who has never judged her. That is Joe. And that’s why he really felt the right time to connect them to both this season.
Now that season 3 has come to an end, what can fans of season 4 expect?
Glinski: We finish episode 10 with some quite large hooks that could hint some of the things we are exploring.
Lampert: Our themes for season 4 are origins and cycles. You get the indication of that in season 3. However, we continue the conversation about who Ginny and Georgia are in relation to each other and how their personal decisions will have immediate implications for the other.
